It is on planet Ogan. No one who has been to Death Canyon has ever come back. It is said a HUGE black rock monster lives there. No one is sure. There is a boiling lake. It is also said there is a Two-Headed Firana in the lake. It was called Escape from Sentai Mountain by Greg Farshtey, published by Scholastic in 2006.

In this book, an Exo-Force pilot named Hikaru fights a robot battle machine called the Fire Vulture. However, it does a maneuver only one pilot would know how to do. In the end, Hikaru sets out to rescue his friend Takeshi's father, Yukio, his mother, Akina, and his sister, Tamika, who were trapped by the robots.

I like this book because I like battle books. Greg Farshtey is my most favorite author. I especially like his battle book series because they all have a main war. For example, Exo-force has humans versus robots, while Bionicle Chronicles has tales of the Turaga.

Chimpanzees

I'd like to tell you about chimpanzees and this is what I'd like to tell you:

Chimps eat a lot of things,
like eat plants, nuts, berries, other fruits, insects and medium-sized animals, and eggs and honey.

Chimps use lots of tools.
For example, they make tools like rock bullets and they fish for termites with twigs stripped of leaves. And they also use a strip of grass poked into a beehive to get honey.

This is how they hunt.
They have territories for hunting and they have guard chimpanzees to guard the territory. Also, males hunt more than females. The males work together when hunting. Sometimes some wait in ambush, while others drive the prey toward the ambush. They communicate with each other to hunt.

This is how they communicate.
They touch each other to communicate, as in hugging, tickling, kissing, patting on the back, touching hands, and shaking fists. They can also learn American Sign Language from humans and they can feel and communicate emotions.

This is their habitat.
They live in twenty-one African countries. They usually live in rainforests, but they can also adapt to a wide variety of foods so they can travel to different habitats.

This is a Chimp's life cycle.
First the life cycle of a chimpanzee is first they have babies. A baby chimpanzee is born and at three-to-six months, rides on mom's back and explores its surroundings and drinks milk. At three or four years, it weans, and reaches adolescence at about eight years old. It's partly grown and will stay with the group several more years. They will reach adulthood at 13 and be in their prime at twenty and thirty years. In adulthood, it leaves home.

So, I have told you all I know about chimps. I hope you find out more about them.

The Courage of Sarah Noble

To be brave and to have fear is the best kind of courage because Sarah’s father said that to be afraid and to be brave is the best courage of all. When she was left alone while her father started work on the house, she kept up her courage and made friends with the Indians. I have been learning division and finding the area of various polygons. I think it's especially fun to find averages.
Science: Noeo Science Weather, Microlife, Creepy Crawlies. My favorite thing is the experiments. The most yummy one was baking rolls when we were finding out about yeast.
Language Arts: I have been learning about making my writing more interesting hooks, adjectives, adverbs, similes, and more things. I learned to organize an essay into three supporting sentences, sometimes a hook if you want someone to read it, a topic sentence, and a conclusion. You can read some of my writing on this blog.
History: I am learning about American Indians/Native Americans, and the Pilgrims. Some of the Indians I learned about are Incans, Aztecs, Mayans, Eskimos/Inuit, Navajo, Iroquois, Pueblo, Hopewell, and Shawnee. I went to the Tecemseh play and to the Mound City Hopewell Culture Historic Park.
Reading: I'm keeping a list of all the books I'm reading in the sidebar of my blog.
Bible: I've been reading in the books of Genesis, Exodus, and Luke. I've learned about Joseph, and I'm learning about Moses right now, and I'm learning about Jesus healing all those people in Luke.
Handwriting, Keyboarding, Spelling: I'm working through SmithHand, SpongeBob Typing, and Sequential Spelling. I've learned i, u, w and e, x, m, and v, l, h, and t, c, o, a, b, and d, j, f, g and p in handwriting. In keyboarding I've learned all the letters of the alphabet in the lower case version. My handwriting goals are to learn to write all the letters of the alphabet in cursive plus numbers and capitals. My keyboarding goals are to get 90% accuracy and 15 words per minute.

Squanto

Has God ever given you special preparation or put you in just the right place at the right time to do something special? God did just that for an Indian named Squanto.
For instance, Squanto was uniquely suited to help the Pilgrims because he had all the talents of the Indians like putting five seeds in a hole and then three dead fish. Also, he knew how to fish with his hands and the Pilgrims only knew how to fish with fishing poles, which didn’t help them because they had lost their hooks.

Later, Squanto became stranded in England for several years and there learned the white man’s language, which helped him communicate with the Pilgrims. So I guess God was keeping him there, because he needed to learn the white man’s language.

Eventually, his lack of homeland made him have the choice to live with the Pilgrims, so he lived in another Indian hunter’s village for a while, until the Pilgrims and the leader of the village met. Squanto had gone with them to help them communicate, and now when the leader went back to the village, Squanto stayed behind with the Pilgrims.

So, Squanto’s background, his stay in England, and his loss of his homeland helped him with the Pilgrims because if God hadn’t made these things happen, he wouldn’t have been able to teach the Pilgrims the things he taught them.

I hear a splash. Let me tell you about the time Jaden got the flu. It was real bad—so bad that the Thunderspot team plus Daddy had to go into Jaden’s body because it was one million germs at once. So when we got to his stomach (that’s where the flu germs were), we saw all those germs, which looked like big snakes, and they were huge, at least to us.
“How are we going to kill those?” I said.

“First we’ll hit them with our paralyze beams, then slash their heads off with swords,” said Emily.

“‘But there are too many of them to do that with every single one!” said Aaron. “And besides, we’ll have to use our light destroyers for that one, and paralyze won’t work on germs.”

“Then what plan should we use? We’ve used thousands of them, and none of them will work on this.”

“I think I’ve got one,” said Daddy. “Emily, since she’s so fast, could stand in the center of Jaden’s stomach and all the germs would go after her while we all hide in one place and Emily leads them all to the place we’re hiding. Then we jump out with our light destroyers ready and slice all their heads off.”

So we all hid somewhere, with Emily leading all the germs to where we were hiding, and we used the plan Daddy had thought up. As soon as Aaron hit his light destroyer on a germ, it bounced right off! The same was happening with everyone else!

“How are we going to get these guys?” I yelled. ‘Their thick skin is too protective! Even our fire light destroyers are not working!”

“Even more powerful,” said Aaron, “our plasma light destroyers aren’t even working! We need a new plan.”

Atom, who had been quiet all along, knowing our plans would not work and trying to think of one that would, finally spoke up. “I know what will work,” he said. “Me, Aaron, and Jody will go up out of Jaden’s body, and since we’re the best inventors in the club, we’ll invent a new light destroyer that can eliminate germs. We’ll combine our brains to create the ultimate light destroyer that will destroy them!”

So we tried his plan, and it actually worked! We hit one and not only its head was sliced off, just one touch made it disappear.

“Man, these light destroyers really work! We’d better save these for another time when we need them again,” said Daddy.

“Yep,” I said, looking around, “they really do work. Hey, where’s Lucas?”

--to be continued--
